The End of Praetorian-Guard

Today marks the official end of the Praetorian-Guard. We had a good 6-month run, averaging about #9-#12 in the corps rankings, but with this server merge, we simply could not compete. We were a small, tight knit corps of friends who enjoyed the game, but didn't pour hundreds of dollars into it. And unfortunately, in a galaxy where money equals power, we were at a disadvantage. There were several factors leading up to this moment, as I'm sure you're all curious.

Perhaps the first factor leading to the Guard's demise was a few months ago, when two of our Tribunes had decided to splinter off and trick many of our biggest members to come with them to Fondation. They were even able to convince the third Tribune to leave. Upon realizing that he had been duped, he vowed to return... but never did.

We were able to bounce back from that for a few months, but then my personal life took a major shift. When I started PG, I was between jobs - but financially stable, had a girlfriend, and a house. In August, all of that changed, I was now broke and moving to make the girl happy. And a few weeks ago, I started a new job, got dumped by the girl, and am moving yet again. My time has become a precious commodity that has been devoted to the corps less and less.

The biggest factor however, has to be the server merge. On Server 13, we were 9th or 10th, with 6 RBPS. After the merge, we were part of the big S13-S14 alliance, but as Pride - the de facto leader of the alliance - learned who the big corps from the other servers were, that left less and less room for the smaller corps. Despite answering the call to action for Pride on at least three seperate occasions, we were continuously marginalized. Our continued diplomacy talks to secure resources began to break down and the impending doom of PG was becoming more apparent.

Many of us have found a new home in Retribution. I will continue to operate the website and the forum, but as for the corps, it is now just a shell that I have passed to an alt to keep as a reminder of the good old days. I look forward to a continued friendship with you all, please keep in touch.

The New and Improved Guard

In the last month the Praetorian Guard has grown by leaps and bounds - without the use of hundred or even thousands of dollars like many of the top corps. We've climbed the ranks to 12th, the top corps on the second page, and are well on track to continue our trek to the top.

One of the many reasons we have grown so well was the enactment of many of the policies we have learned are essential from our mistakes in the previous months. The required daily donations and the charts used to track it have helped our corps weed out many of the inactive or weaker players who were unable to meet the quota, and opened up many slots for players willing to do so. The corps makes an average of 7000 wealth a day, used for various upgrading purposes. Another development essential to proper corps function is the heading up of our RBP Defense Plan by Kaffee, one of our three Tribunes. His careful planning and enactment of the strategy he has developed ensures that our planets are secure against even the most determined aggressors.

Since the Time_Lords and Alpha_Omega attacks a month ago, our corps has consolidated, trimmed its fat, and learned from its many previous mistakes. Through our continued growth, we look forward to proving that teamwork and time are a better weapon than money.

Wake up call for the Praetorians

Today was a wake up call for the Praetorian-Guard. We had been sitting high and mighty, comfortable in our strength, when we suddenly lost one of our Bonus Planets to the Time_Lords. The Time_Lords mustered together a force of almost 500,000 ships and easily overwhelmed our defenses. The Praetorian-Guard can no longer afford to sit idley by while much more organized corps prosper.

In recent weeks, the Praetorian-Guard has been full on members while turning away potentially better members. It is a priviledge to be in our corps, and too many of our more 'inactive' members are capitalizing on that. Donating the minimum of 20 points every few days to maintain the semblance of activity, while garnishing the 50% bonuses the active members have lost ships to obtain. No longer will this be the case.

The Corps will now be instituting a strict minimum of 50 points per day in donations. This minimum will span all levels and includes alts. Too low in level to afford 500k in donations a day? Then your ships probably aren't much help either. Want your alt in the corps? Fine, as long as you AND your alt donate 50pts per day. Anyone in the corps receiving the bonuses we have worked for is subject to this rule.

The Praetorian-Guard seeks to continue to grow and secure itself in the galaxy, and the lackadaisical attitude we have previously held about our members' contributions will no longer sustain our path to this goal. As we grow, as the bonuses we provide grows, so will the contribution and activity of our members.

Ceasefire with Republic Declared

After losing over a quarter of a million ships, having their entire zone white-flagged, and their best player defecting, Republic was rallying it's ally corps for a counter attack. While the Praetorian-Guard could have enlisted its allies to our defense, I decided not to allow this escalation to get out of hand. Within seconds of contacting the Republic leader, a ceasefire was agreed upon.

The Republic has agreed to stop their recruiting spam and not seek retaliation or urge its allies to do the same. After losing 254,000 ships and over a dozen planets sacked, the Republic's fighting strength has been effectively dropped to zero.

As a result of our victory, GODS and The_Pride have agreed to forge alliances and truces with us. And we can't seem to open up enough spots for all of the high level players wishing to join our ranks. We will soon institute stricter standards for our members in order to make way for the influx of quality players we have been receiving after our quick rise in the ranks.

Praetorians defeat the Republic

In a battle that is worthy of galactic headlines, the Praetorian-Guard laid a serious smack down on the Republic. The Republic has been spamming the World Chat non-stop for days begging people to join them - after repeatedly being told to tone it down, they only doubled and tripled their efforts. Sometimes posting the same spam message six times in a row. The Praetorian-Guard decided enough was enough and declared open war.

The first shots were fired when DesertRaven, Kaffee, and ailsa all ported to their main cluster and sent their fleets to attack one of their LtCol's. The battle soon erupted into an all out war, with Republic sending nearly all of their ships and calling on their allies for help. The Praetorian-Guard mustered three more members to the battle, Dfang, Stin, and DewDragon. After nearly 2 hours of fighting, our 184,024 ships defeated all 180,712 of their ships, while only sustaining 92k losses.

Open season has been declared on all Republic members in retaliation for our meager losses. In all hopes, they will cease their recruiting spam and be humbled in shame.

Honor Restored

In a day which started with the tragic loss of an RBP we fought and planned so hard to obtain, we have avenged ourselves by taking an entirely different Resource Bonus Planet using only 5 of our members. As a result, we have skyrocketed up the Corps Ranks and have made a name for ourselves.

As a result of this capture, two corps, the Fondation and Gemini have appealed to us for alliances. We have graciously accepted the terms of peace and can now count on them for mutual support. Gemini, as many may know, was the corps many of us had broken away from due to the poor leadership of the past - they now have a new leader dedicated to restoring its name. We look forward to working with both corps to advance all of our interests.

The issue of the original RBP we attacked earlier today has likewise been resolved. While the issue is still being investigated by IGG, the Independants leader has agreed to allow us to retake the RBP when the protection expires without conflict. As leader of Praetorian-Guard, I applaud the Independants for understanding what was rightfully ours and handling the matter justly.

6-12 Never Forget

Due to a glitch in the programming, one single member of Independants (it's actually misspelled this way..) was able to steal the RBP that we had sent well over 30 fleets to obtain.

Overall, the attack went great. We had the firepower and the right builds, and took the planet by round 23! But because a level 1 with his 300 ships arrived just seconds before we did, we were cheated out of the entire thing. A complaint has been filed with IGG, however there is little hope that the correct action will be taken.

We shall not take this as a defeat, but as a call to action. Our forces are more than capable of taking any other RBP, which we will do in a short time, and then in three days when the protection on our lost RBP has expired, we will take what is rightfully ours. I have warned the leader of Independants of our intent, and warned that any action he takes to secure the planet will be met with open war.

As a result of our stellar performance on the RBP attack, Fondation, led by Skid, has secured an alliance with us. We now have the backing of a top ten corps, and will soon join them at the top. However, our vendetta against Independants is our own, and we will handle it accordingly.

Welcome to the Praetorian Guard Website

I put together this website in the hope of giving our fledgling new corps a place to gather. For corps information, game information, or just general nonsense. I hope that this site becomes your one stop shop for everything related to Galaxy Online II. More information will be added, but for now, here is the jist:

- A forum for general postings, announcements, questions, etc. Please register using your game name.
- Expectations of you as a member and the Corps' mission.
- Guides to help you become a better player
- Informational pages including what blueprints are found where, named commanders, and statistics.

So please enjoy the site, use it to the fullest, and contact me in game if there is anything you think could be added. Please note that the site is in its infancy and will soon have a sleaker layout and far more information than you know how to handle.
